Scones NOT Bisquits

I'm from Brooklyn New York, and I had never (before that time) seen or even heard of a scone. This fact is so sad, since I had three young daughters at the time. I was definitely old enough to have known better. However, I did not. That is until I made the horrific mistake of accepting an invitation (my first) to a tea.

I sat at a round table with two elderly people, their daughter (my best friend) and my children.

As the elderly gentlemen (who had invited me to this function and had paid for myself and my children to enter) passed the pastries, my children and I both marveled at how good the biscuits tasted. It wasn't until I actually said, in agreement, that I liked the biscuits too that the older gentlemen said in complete disgust, "they're not biscuits;they're scones." The look on his face screamed the word 'IDIOTS.' To this day I have NEVER forgotten that look.

Today, I know the difference, but was I embarrassed.
