Julia

by Julia
(England)

My husband and I recently invited his (well-off) mother and step-father out for a meal. Obviously, as we had invited them we were paying the bill. (Note - both my mother and step-father-in law commented on how good the portions were). When we had finished our main course, the waitress came to our table and asked if we would like any desserts. To my astonishment, before my husband or I had opened our mouths to reply, our two guests immediately piped up "Oh yes please - can we have ...". The waitress then asked whether they would like cream or ice cream on this, to which they both immediately replied "Can we have both please". If the tables had been turned, I would definitely have waited for our hosts to decide whether they wanted dessert and if they didn't I would have politely declined!

Am I being unreasonable? I just can't stand lack of manners!
