Easy
Mashed Potato
Recipe

....for PERFECT, creamy mash!

This easy mashed potato recipe is guaranteed to produce perfect results.......every time! Follow the steps below and you will produce the most sublime, smooth and fluffy mash potato you have ever eaten!

This potato mash makes a fabulous side dish to a main course, or indeed as a delicious topping for fish pie or cottage pie.

Gourmet food........the EASY way!

Mashed Potato

INGREDIENTS
Serves 4

2lb/1kg King Edward or Desirée potatoes
generous pinch salt
4oz/125g cold unsalted butter, diced
6 to 8 fl oz/100-200ml hot, full fat milk
¼ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (optional)
sea salt and freshly milled white pepper

METHOD

  • Peel the potatoes and cut into 4 or 6 even-sized pieces depending on size.

  • Put the potato pieces into a large saucepan and cover with cold water. Place over a high heat, add a generous pinch of salt and bring to the boil. Once boiling, lower the heat to medium and cover with a lid. Simmer gently for about 20 minutes until tender when pierced with the point of a knife. Drain well.

  • Return the potatoes to the pan, cover with the lid and place back over a low heat for a couple of minutes to dry them out. Toss occasionally.

  • Now using a masher, work the potatoes really hard until completely smooth.

  • Using a wooden spoon, now work the butter into the mash beating in a few pieces at a time.

  • Finally, beat in enough hot milk to achieve the desired consistency (personally, I don't like it too soft) and season to taste with sea salt, freshly milled white pepper and grated nutmeg (optional).
